The Chore Boots

Today is a big day for us, friends.  We are driving to the big city for our hoity-toity portfolio conferences.

Does that make me sound important?  I hope so.

Every time I mention portfolio conferences, I leave people confused and bewildered, so allow me to explain.  I choose to homeschool through a program offered through my state.  My state does not require me to do so.  I choose to do so.  I must show proof of meeting all the common core standards by creating portfolios for each child.  Clear as mud?  Good.  Anyways, today is our portfolio conference and we have been working really hard to get them ready.

Amazingly, I got everyone ready to leave with one hour to spare.

!

So, I sat at the computer to do some homework and decided to throw caution to the wind and blog instead.  True, this will probably make me late.  But what is life without stress?  I ask you?

Little Dude.  Let’s talk about him.

He is a sweetheart.  Yesterday for reading time, he gathered three Dr. Seuss books for us to share.  Little Dude has a huge interest in reading and I think he is doing quite well for being just four.  He sat down and read most of Green Eggs and Ham.  He did need some help.  But when we got to the end where Not-Sam-I-Am finally tries the green eggs and ham and likes them, Little Dude started to cry happy tears.

He insisted that his eyes just had water in them.

Next, we read The Cat in the Hat.  And when the fish and children told Cat in the Hat to leave, and the Cat got all sad-like, Little Dude cried again.

He insisted that his eyes just had water in them.

And anyone who has not read Green Eggs and Ham or Cat in the Hat is thoroughly confused right now.  But really-had anyone not read those books?  Hmmm?  Inquiring minds want to know.

After swim lessons yesterday, I helped Little Dude get dressed right down to his shoes.  Yes, the boy excels at reading, but he cannot figure out how to put underwear on for the life of him.  The one task I left to him was putting his coat on.

ld dressed

Completely upside down.  And he does this 75% of the time.  How is this possible?

Meanwhile back on the ranch . . .

My husband, my beloved, hath purchased me these boots:

 muck boots

If you look closely under the diamond, you will see they are aptly labeled:

“Chore”

Chore boots.

You know.  Lest I get confused and wear them to the mall or something.

As if I go to the mall anymore.  Ha!  I laugh at the thought.

Anyways.  Muck boots are fantastic for trudging through pigs pens and the like.  I am genuinely excited.

Send help.

Word on the street is that Google Reader is soon to be no more.  Does anyone use Google Reader?  What do you plan on switching to instead?

Happy Wednesday

I switched to Bloglovin. It’s easy and they imported all my blogs from my Google Reader list in about 2 seconds. The format is slightly different than GR, but I like it so far. Plus did I mention the switch was easy?

I like the boots…I have wellies for tromping thru the mud. No pig slop here, but plenty of mud from the never ending melting snow. Have fun in the big city!

I USE GOOGLE READER!!! I was a little devistated but then started to use Feedly, the problem is that it doesn’t work on Internet Explorer so I had to switch to Google Chrome. Which is really not a big deal, however, I am so trained to click on the e, that I continually am forgetting to go right next to it and click on chrome. Oh well, much worse things have happened in life. 🙂
Also, we are just starting to change over to the Common Core Standards over here in Michigan and as a teacher I am more than stressed about all the changes. I am glad to hear that your portfolio is going well. Anyway, must go back and teach (yes I am supposed to be teaching right now instead of commenting to you). 🙂

I switched to Feedly, and I like it so far. It imported all my stuff easily, and it has a fancy magazine format. We’ll see. I think mean thoughts about Google.

Side Note: The Common Core is bad news.

  4. Liz says:

I switched to Bloglovin’ and it was easy-peasy to switch.

My kid does that with her coat too. She forgets that you need to put the hood by your feet, if you’re using the “put the coat on the ground” method of dressing. At least your kiddo isn’t having a melt down over it. We get one every time.

I’m extremely upset with Google reader! I only use it you know, every day!! Ugh. I haven’t switched over yet but I suppose I’ll take the advice of the lovely readers above and switch to either bloglovin’ or Feedly. Sigh…I don’t like these kinds of changes.

P.S. Nice boots. My husband will be jealous if I show them to him…he loves some boots! Any kind….hunting/riding/work…it doesn’t matter. 🙂

  6. JoAnn says:

I think you should order some Hunter rain boots in a fabulous color. They’re only like, over 100 dollars. But, you would look super stylish in them and you could go STRAIGHT to the mall from mucking.
Your son is brilliant and sweet. I’m mildly jealous, but I don’t know how you survived 2 dr seuss books. Those things are LOooooooong. And this? This attitude of mine? probably why my son isn’t reading as much as your son.
    Good work mama!

  7. B says:

But, but , but David can tell everyone he got you diamonds !
Your little dude is all heart.

  8. Kendra says:

    Nice boots!

  9. Melissa K. says:

I will respond to your Google Reader question even though you were silent on mine DESPITE the fact that the image clearly showed that you are #1 in my “friends and kindreds” folder. Hmmph.

I’m trying out both Feedly and Bloglovin’ on both my computer and iPod Touch before I make a decision. I’m leaning toward Feedly, though. I love the layout, at least on my laptop.

  10. I love chore boots! They’re so warm and waterproof they make me feel unconquerable.

No I am not kidding, but then again I never had to use mine to feed pigs.

  11. datenut says:

OK. So you can slop around in all the animals uh droppings safely but then don’t you have to touch the boots to get them off? EEEwww. Never heard of googlereader and never read green eggs and ham. Sorry. I use the library for reading. Just missed the green eggs book, read lots of others. When you were little it was all about Berenstain Bears. Reading at 4 is super amazing and it’s not like you pushed him either.

  12. My 6 yr old is also advanced with reading, but super behind with coordination and dressing. Never mind. They all progress at their own pace. He is a sweetheart.

Muck boots are like, totally, the IN boots to have on a farm! You should feel super trendy out in the pig pen. 🙂

  13. B says:

The lady that has the blog Bird and Little Bird is having a sale on her emagazine for children and parents.
    It is 30 percent off.
    Alphabet Glue .
I think you all would get a lot of good ideas from it.

  14. Sherri says:

Already made the switch to Bloglovin and I’m very pleased with it, so far!

  15. Jill says:

I do not have chore boots. Mostly because I gave birth to 5 sons, and they can do the chores. (Not sure all that labor was a good trade off, though.) So my husband gets them chore boots for Christmas and they are all happy and whatnot. I get really cool shoes that I picked out myself and I am all happy and whatnot.

    It works for me.

  16. Christina says:

I am very happy for you that you have those boots and so your regular shoes do not have to get all mucked up.
I do not use a feed reader. But I really need to because I never know when someone has posted.
